Original MB-1 Snake Eyes
We like these for the story. It was a guy, Ernie Vanderson, who was trying to "make the best and get the most". He almost made it.

The original Snake Eyes came out in the early 90's. Ernie was one of the top designers at the time. There was a lot of hoopla, maybe fueled from some left over money from the go-go 80's. Ernie got the vaunted Smith and Wesson company to produce his forgings. They sold for a magnificent $995 for 3-PW in those days, which was a premium, to say the least.

Might be it was a little too "premium". Might be the design wasn't quite perfect. Who knows the other "might have beens". Snake Eyes failed, Golfworks picked up the pieces in liquidation and "revived" the name in Texas with Chinese components. The logo is still nice but the product is not the same.

We like these clubs. We don't think that they are the best to play, but they are still good looking in your bag. If Ernie would have just charged $1 more than the major OEM's, maybe he would have caught the wind and everything would have come out different. Meantime, you can find recycled sets on eBay for $200-$450.
